Writer/Creator Kenya Barris keeps delivering hit shows for ABC that walk a fine line of comedy and cultural commentary. I’m honored to have directed my debut episode of television on his latest project GROWN-ISH, the BLACK-ISH spinoff coming in 2018 to ABC’s Freeform.
You may have caught an introduction to the story toward the end of Season 3 on BLACKISH, but if you missed it, GROWN-ISH follows Yara Shahidi as Zoey Johnson, navigating college and the freedoms and challenges that come with it.
I directed the fifth episode of the season and had an amazing time with the cast, crew, and all involved. The script, written by Craig Doyle, was incredible and I can’t wait for audiences to go on this journey with Zoey and her new friends … as well as Dre, Bow, and the rest of the Johnson family.
I’m also happy to announce that I’ll be directing an episode of BLACK-ISH in just a couple weeks, which will also air in 2018!
