Deadline recently announced the 10 directors for the Disney|ABC program and I’m excited to be a part of this great opportunity. Things got rolling quick when I shadowed Linda Mendoza on Episode 312 of BLACK-ISH, starring Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross.
I participated in the entire prep (4 days) and production period (5 days) where I got to pepper Linda with any questions I had and compare what was shot with my own shotlist. I also had a chance to have in-depth conversations with creator Kenya Barris, producer Michael Petok, writer Gail Lerner, cinematographer Rob Sweeney, UPM Heidi McGowan, and the talented cast. Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Jennifer Lewis, Deon Cole, Pete Mackenzie, and Nelson Franklin left no comedic stone unturned. The rest of the cast including Marcus Scribner, Yara Shahidi, Marsai Martin, Miles Brown were exceptional as well.
Can’t wait to see the episode when it airs in 2017. Stay tuned for updates on the other shows I am selected to observe.
Amazing!!! Congratulations, Pete. Bravo!
Thanks, Tia! I hope all is well with you.
I have to say that you are an “inspiration” to me. It was a pleasure working with you on the Oprah project in Houston. Since then I have watched your progression. Keep doing your thing!!! Hope to work with you again soon. SALUTE & #CONGRATS
Appreciate that Brother Reggie! It was great working with you and I’m looking forward to the next time we can collaborate. Holler when you’re in NYC…
Pete!
Congratulations as we know you will soar and achieve great things in film and TV!
All the best,
Darrell and Deb Gunter
Thanks Team Gunter! I appreciate it and you both. I look forward to catching up when I’m back east. It’s been awhile!
Congratulations once again Pete. They’re shooting one ep per 9 days? Am I understanding that correctly?
Thanks, brother. It was 4 days of prep and 5 days of shooting for a half hour episode. That’s for network. Some of the cable shows, depending on network, shoot for fewer days.
